6 Best Smart Kettles UK 2018
Many households are moving to smarter appliances these days. These come in many guises from thermostats to speakers. One of the newer appliances that hasn’t found widespread acceptance currently is smart kettles. In this post, we will be looking at 6 current models that are available in this category, their pros and cons, and of course making our recommendation.
1. Sage Smart Kettle
At a Glance
- Brand: Sage
- Model: BKE820UK Smart Kettle
- Price: £89
Our Outline
Sage, as we have seen in previous posts, are responsible for making some of the highest quality appliances within the kitchen. The brand specialises in high tech solutions, and this is a focus with their smart kettle. The overall look of this kettle is in keeping with their other appliances and built using stainless steel.
Features
Strictly speaking this would not necessarily qualify as a smart kettle. It can not be used from an app, however it does have options that you would not find on ‘normal’ kettles. The kettle has a range of temperature options, allowing you to heat water to a more precise temperature for different beverages. The lid has cushioned control, which helps to prevent any water splashing and also has a keep warm function, which helps to maintain water temperature. The kettle has built in windows so that the water level can be easily seen.
Quality and Price
As with all products from Sage, the quality of this product is not in question. The combined look of the stand and the kettle produce a very stylish effect that will work well within any kitchen. £89 would be an expensive price for a ‘normal’ kettle, however is not that expensive for a kettle with the additions that this one offers.
- Stylish modern design
- Temperature Controlled water heating
- Keep warm feature
- Soft closing lid
- Cannot be operated by an app
The Sage kettle is stylish with a good range of features. This modern kettle will sit well in any kitchen and is relatively well priced. The drawback to this kettle for this particular category is that its ‘smart’ criteria may be questioned, and those that want a kettle that can be operated by an app, will need to look elsewhere.
2. AppKettle
At a Glance
- Brand: AppKettle
- Model: AK00001
- Price: £129.99
Our Outline
As the name would suggest, this kettle has an associated app with it that provides information to the user. The stainless steel kettle consists of a base and a separate unit and as with the Sage kettle looks sleek and modern. The modern features of this kettle extend however past the looks and into the options it offers to the users.
Features
The first and the biggest trick for this kettle is that it is voice compatible with Alexa. Offering the ability to control the temperature and several different modes for different drink types. The kettle also includes a mode specifically for baby bottles. The app is simple to use and works across different platforms, and using IFTTT can be connected to Amazon Alexa to allow voice control.
Quality and Price
The AppKettle has great looks and style and maybe the most modern kettle currently on the market. The quality of the machine is excellent, and the integration with its app works very well. The interface that can be found on the base, is another added extra for this kettle. The £129.99 price tag for this kettle is high, however if you are looking for the most modern products for your home, then it does not seem so expensive.
- Can be voice controlled through Alexa
- Integrated app
- Great range of features
- Modern and stylish
- Expensive for a kettle
The Appkettle is one of our favourites and comes highly recommended on Amazon. This is a truly modern and smart machine that can be operated in a number of different ways. The price tag may put some people off, however, we didn’t think that it was that expensive for the quality of the product that you are receiving.
3. Smarter iKettle 2.0
At a Glance
- Brand: Smarter
- Model: iKettle 2.0
- Price: £219.55
Our Outline
Another kettle that can claim to be smart, the iKettle offers smart design with a stainless steel finish. As with the Appkettle, this one offers the advantage of having an app that the kettle is able to link to. In this kettle there is not a separate base, and whether the styling of the iKettle is preferred over the two previous models considered, will be a matter of personal choice.
Features
The iKettle can be paired with its app that will allow you to remove boil the kettle from wherever you are. The app also provides details about the kettle. The kettle, like the others reviewed, has temperature control features, allowing you to heat the water to the temperature you desire. You will be notified via the app when the water reaches the temperature that you would like. The kettle also features a wake up mode, and a home mode allowing you to schedule the kettle to boil at a time of your choosing.
Quality and Price
As with the other kettles reviewed, the quality of the design of this kettle is high. Being made in stainless steel, the design is stylish and sleek, and without requiring a base, takes up a little less space than some other models. The cost of £219.55 is very high even for a smart kettle, and whilst it does offer a range of interesting features, the AppKettle offers much better value for money.
- Stylish and sleek design
- Integrated app
- Range of high tech features
- Different modes to suit your lifestyle
- Very expensive model in comparison to the AppKettle
Whilst the iKettle does offer a range of high quality features, and the convenience of an app. This stylish and sleek model cannot compete on value for money with the AppKettle however, and this was a major drawback for us about this model.
4. Redmond Skykettle
At a Glance
- Brand: Redmond
- Model: Skykettle M170S-E
- Price: £118.42
Our Outline
At first glance, the redmond offers a slightly different look with the patterned side. This is a change from most modern kettles which go for a plain stainless steel finish. The Redmond like the Sage offers a two piece kettle, with a base and body, although unlike the Sage, also offers an integrated app as well.
Features
The Skykettle, offers many of the same features as Sage, and the base of this model is very similar. The touch buttons, offer the ability to be able to heat the water to the temperature that you require, allowing you to get the most out of your beverages. The body is made from stainless steel, and offers a detachable limescale filter. The app allows you to control your kettle remotely, giving you the choice of water temperature and timer. The app has a clear interface that is easy to control and understand.
Quality and Price
The design of the Skykettle is a bit different to those that we have already reviewed. The slight patterning on the body of the kettle is unlikely to appeal to everyone, although does make this kettle striking. The design and build quality of the kettle is high, and of the standard that you would expect for a kettle in this price bracket. At £118.42, it is slightly cheaper than the AppKettle, which makes it a possible contender within this category.
- Sleek and unusual design
- Integrated app
- Range of temperature controls
- Detachable limescale filter
- The pattern on the side of the kettle will not be attractive to everyone
This model is a director competitor to the AppKettle, offering similar features at a similar price. The Skykettle is sleek and stylish, although we personally did not like the styling as much as the AppKettle. Offering a range of high end features, this is a model that would look good in any kitchen, however this will be dependent upon your own view of the design.
5. AEG Digital Kettle
At a Glance
- Brand: AEG
- Model: EWA7800-U
- Price: £83.26
Our Outline
This model is in the same category as the Sage, in that it cannot really be considered as being smart. It is included though for the same reason as the Sage, in that it offers a range of functions and with great styling. This model as with many of the others in our review offers a two piece set up with a base and a body. The design is stainless steel and looks very clean and precise.
Features
This model from AEG offers a one cup turbo function, meaning that you won’t have to wait very long for your morning cup of tea or coffee. The kettle also provides the ability to control the temperature of the water, through an adjustable temperature control on the base of the machine. A keep warm feature ensures that the temperature of the water will be suitable for a second and even a third cup without reboiling, whilst the base has a 360 degree swivel function, making the kettle easy to group.
Quality and Price
The design of this model from AEG is excellent as is the build quality. The kettle is sleek and modern, with the base and the kettle seeming to mould into each other. This kettle would look good in any kitchen. At £83.26, this is the cheapest option within our review, and although it does not feature an integrated app, the kettle is of a high enough quality, and there is enough features to make this a worthy contender.
- Excellent modern design
- Variable temperature control
- Keep warm function
- Relatively low price point
- Does not have an integrated app
The AEG is an excellent kettle, and we would recommend it over the Sage model. The styling is very modern and the range of technical options are great. The drawback to this kettle is that it does not have an integrated app, which if you are looking for a ‘smart’ kettle, is probably what you want. Buy this model, if you don’t need an app with your kettle.
6. MDL Three Layer Anti Scalding Kettle
At a Glance
- Brand: MDL
- Model: Anti Scalding Kettle
- Price: £153.93
Our Outline
The last model of kettle in this review is very different in styling. This model from MDL is more of a hot water outlet, which allows you to access hot water as and when you need it. Again this is not really a ‘smart’; kettle, but like some of the others in our review, offers features that regular kettles would not.
Features
This model from MDL offers a portable handle for easy movement of the machine as well as the ability to control the temperature of the water. The removable and washable cover makes this model easy to clean, and the smart child lock will help to ensure that no accidents occur. The machine as a 5 litre capacity as well as timing function.
Quality and Price
This model is a completely different design from other options. The quality of the machine is good, although we do not think it has the sleek design of the kettles above. At £153.93, this is quite an expensive model, and although it would have its uses, it is not necessarily the best option for a family home.
- Well built machine
- Variable temperature control
- Timing function
- Large capacity
- May be more useful in a commercial office environment than a home
The model from MDL is a different take on the traditional kettle, and we believe that it would be useful and suitable for a range of different functions, especially in office locations. As a smart kettle for the home however, we do not believe that this is the most practical option within the options offered.

Our pick for this review is the AppKettle. We believe that this is the clear winner, and is also one of Amazons choices as well. The great design combined with the high techn feature and the price point, make this one a clear choice.
